black peppercorns
|
Black pepper is a pungent spice made from the berries of a climbing vine native
to the Malabar Coast in southwest India. Pepper is one of the earliest
spices known and is probably the most widely used spice in the world today.
Historically, pepper was vital to trade between India and Europe. In
ancient Greece and Rome, pepper was so valuable that it was used as currency in
both trade and taxation.
In the Middle Ages, the virtual monopoly on the pepper trade held by Venice and
Genoa fueled the search for an eastern sea route and thus the discovery of the
Americas.
For an interesting taste sensation, add sliced strawberries to vanilla ice cream
and sprinkle with freshly ground black pepper.
We are delighted to offer our black peppercorns in a 2.1 oz plastic grinder
top jar. Keep one of these attractive grinders next to the stove or on the table
to conveniently add delicious, freshly ground black peppercorns to your favorite foods.
