What do I use flavor extracts for?
At faerie's finest, we formulate our flavor extracts for optimum flavor in baked goods such as cakes, cookies and pies.  They can also be used in marinades, pancake and waffle mixes, frostings and desserts.  Using our flavor extracts with some type of sugar will give you the fullest possible flavor. For beverages and candies we recommend our concentrated flavor drops.
How much flavor extract should I use?
The amount used depends on what you are making.  Fat, sugar and salt content all affect flavor.  For a standard size cake, we recommend starting with 1/2 to 1 tsp of flavor extract.  Always start out adding less than you think and add more as needed.  Too much flavor will often result in either no perceptible flavor or in a bitter aftertaste.
I want a different flavor in my recipe.  Do I just replace the vanilla extract?
Vanilla does more than add vanilla flavor.  Vanilla also enhances other flavors and gives a smoother overall taste.  We recommend using half the recommended amount of vanilla extract and then gradually adding your desired flavor extract until you get the flavor you want.
Will some of the flavor bake out in the oven?
Flavor extracts that contain alcohol will lose a tiny amount of flavor during baking but the taste difference is unnoticeable to most people.
Do I need to refridgerate my flavor extracts?
Flavor extracts do not need to be refridgerated but they should be stored away from light and heat.  Never store your flavor extracts above or next to your oven.  The changes in temperature can cause some changes in your flavor extracts.
How long will my flavor extract last?  Will it go bad?
While flavor extracts will not spoil, they can lose flavor over time.  For best results use the following guidelines:
  • Citrus flavors should be used within six months of purchase.
  • Vanilla flavors should be used within two years of purchase.
  • Other flavors should be used within a year or purchase.
Why aren't there nutritional statements for flavor extracts?
Our flavor extracts do not contain any sugar, salt or fat and add no nutritional value per serving.
