The tangerine is variety of the mandarin orange. They have been cultivated
for over 3000 years in Uganda, Japan and Djibouti.
Tangerines were first shipped to Europe from the port of Tangier, Algeria and
were identified with that city. The easily peeled tangerine is most
popular as an 'eating' fruit but is also widely used for bevarages.
